Last year, in July, I opened Sunshine Paintings with just a few images and the vague idea of what I was doing running an online business. Since then, I feel like I’ve learned a lot and have a much better handle on things. It’s still a trial sometimes and I’ve made a few errors, but I feel like it’s been worth all the time and effort. I’m pretty sure my clients are happy too :)
Since I’ve been honest about everything, sharing this experience with all of you, I thought I’d give you a peek at the financial ups and downs over the last year.
As you can see, there were a few “starving artist” times in there, but for the most part, I was able to bring in a nice profit each month.
Oh, by the way, this isn’t just selling prints and paintings from the store, it’s all of my commission work too. I lump it all under the Sunshine Paintings heading since it’s the same sort of work.
I guess I’m mostly sharing this information so that anyone considering doing something similar — or even selling on ebay or whatever — can see that it’s not going to be totally easy and awesomely profitable, at least not right away. I have a fairly large marketing base here, but I know that won’t translate to a sale every single time. If I didn’t have you all, there would be a lot more March/May columns up there.
So THANK YOU for your continued support of Sunshine Paintings <3
